Innovation, Mobility, and the Hydrogen Energy Transition: Techfem at the Hydrogen Summer School 2025

📍 Hydrogen Summer School 2025 – ENEA Casaccia
🗓️ Wednesday, May 28

An intense and inspiring day marked Techfem’s participation in the Hydrogen Summer School 2025, a training initiative hosted at the ENEA Casaccia Research Center, focused on developing expertise in the hydrogen supply chain and promoting the energy transition in Italy.

Hydrogen Mobility and Hydrogen Valleys: Italian Best Practices

The morning session opened with a spotlight on hydrogen applications in sustainable mobility.
Among the most anticipated speakers were:

  • Luca Vetrone from Toyota Motor Italia, who showcased the potential of Toyota’s hydrogen-powered vehicles Mirai and Hilux;

  • Jessica Rossati from CPL CONCORDIA, who shared the development journey of the SerraH2valle project;

  • Paolo Deiana (ENEA) and Mario Andreozzi (SIAD S.p.A.), who presented two noteworthy Italian Hydrogen Valley initiatives—real-world examples of green hydrogen production and use.

ENEA Lab Tour: Where Innovation Takes Shape

Later in the morning, participants joined a guided tour of the ENEA Casaccia Research Center laboratories, the beating heart of hydrogen innovation in Italy.
It was a unique opportunity to discover experimental technologies, advanced research infrastructure, and pilot projects that outline the future pathways of decarbonization.

Afternoon Focus: Hydrogen Rail Mobility and Safety

The afternoon was dedicated to hydrogen-powered rail mobility, with contributions from:

  • Ilaria Rosso (Alstom),

  • Stefano Erba (FNM S.p.A.),

  • Silvio Pagano (Italian Ministry of the Interior – National Fire Brigade).

The discussion focused on real-world applications, regulatory frameworks, and especially safety measures, which are essential for the widespread adoption of hydrogen in transportation.

Hydrogen Challenge: A Techfem-Led Simulation

To close the day, Techfem led the 2nd Interactive Session: “Hydrogen Challenge & Project Debate”—a realistic simulation involving participants as stakeholders in the energy transition.

This dynamic and collaborative experience encouraged strategic thinking, open discussion, and the development of practical solutions to complex challenges in the hydrogen sector.
